Martha, the ministry's namesake, is the sister of Mary and Lazarus. In the biblical reference, she is doing something practical (Luke 10:40, John 11:20, 28, and 39: 12:2). Having said that, the Martha Ministry was founded to be an active and confidential aid within the West Raleigh church family.

This ministry should not be confused with the Stephen Ministry, which lends a listening ear whereas the Martha Ministry lends a hand.

Members may need assistance for reasons ranging from illness to bad weather. Whatever the reason, the Martha Ministry will try to provide the needed services. Volunteers deliver meals, provide transportation, and help with convalescent care, cut the grass – small things that make a big difference for someone needing some extra support.
